The issue
Long-standing client, Marlborough Highways, needed to gain vehicular access to an overgrown pathway in Newham, London to install a new cycle lane and footpath, but the vegetation had overgrown and the row of trees lining both sides of the pathway were too low to the ground, making access impossible.
The solution
As instructed, we cleared around 700 linear meters of vegetation to ground level approximately 1.5 metres (m) on both sides of the footpath and removed and ground the trees on the spur coming off the main footpath within 6.5m of the road.
Using a mobile elevated work platform (as seen above), we then lifted the crown of the trees along each side to 6m from ground level and shaped the trees’ canopies. This cleared the way for the required machinery to gain access and ensured that the streetlights were unobscured for public safety reasons.
Marlborough Highways supplied pedestrian management as the footpath had to be kept open throughout.
The outcome
Our client was able to gain unfettered access along the length of the footpath in order to install the new cycle lane and pathway.
