Long-standing client, Marlborough Highways, approached us to quote for the installation of temporary fencing around a pond in Beckton District Park, a public park in the London Borough of Newham.
Beckton Council was carrying out extensive improvements to the entire park area, starting with the large pond that is popular with local anglers. This required the removal of fish and water drainage.
The project
The pond clearance and rejuvenation had been brought forward, so the fencing was required as a matter of urgency to maintain public safety throughout the duration of the works by preventing access to the area.
Without it that particular aspect of the project could not go ahead which could delay the rest of the scheduled works.
Knowing this, once our quote was accepted, we quickly ordered the materials and had them delivered to site. In total we required 750 linear metres of 10 yd rolls x 4.0″ high cleft chestnut fencing with 2-line wires.
As the wire was already pre-installed through the fencing, our team consisting of six staff, knocked each fence post into the ground at regular intervals around the pond through vegetation and tarmac paths ensuring they reached a depth of at least 300mm.
The outcome
Our experienced and efficient team completed the job in five days, which was three days ahead of schedule.
This was achieved not only because they worked hard and fast but because it did not take them as long to break through the pathways as we had expected following our initial site inspection.
Our ability to finish the job early took the pressure off our client who were preparing the area for the next stage of the works, which set them in good stead for being able to keep to schedule. Had we finished close to the mark, or late, it would have had a detrimental effect on their ability to meet their delivery deadline, so timing really was critical.
